About Dr. Karen J Dover
Dr Karen J Dover MD is an authority on aesthetics, the study of beauty, which is best achieved at that magical meeting point, the pinnacle of art and science.
Biography
Post-graduate training continued with two years of fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology, one year completed in Hamilton, Ontario at McMaster University, and a second at the University of Ottawa. She subsequently practiced medicine in the Ottawa region until she accepted a position at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery as a Cardiac Surgical Associate. In this role, which she held for fifteen years until 2006, she was actively involved in all aspects of Cardiac Surgery, including teaching, medical and surgical research projects and studies, and minimally-invasive surgery and leading-edge and innovative cardiovascular surgical techniques.
Throughout this time, Dr. Dover continued her study of art and developed her talents and expertise as a semi-professional photographer, ceramic sculptor and mixed-media painter. It was therefore a very natural progression for Dr. Dover into the field of Laser and Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery, as it has allowed her to apply both her unique surgical skills and experience with her creativity and artistry to help her patients achieve their aesthetic goals. She has studied under the tutelage of many of the world’s leaders in these fields. In particular, her internationally-renowned brother Dr. Jeffrey S. Dover, one of the forefathers in the area of Laser Medicine and Surgery and an esteemed dermatologist, scholar and a founding-director of Skin Care Physicians of Chestnut Hill in Boston, Massachusetts, has been an exceptional mentor. She is also indebted to her late father, Dr. Mark R. Dover, former Chief of the Division of General Surgery at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs at the University of Ottawa, who has been another extraordinary role model and a true master of the “art of medicine”. Dr. Dover is a devoted mother to her four children, Sacha, Bronte, Mia and Olivier, who continue to be her pride and joy…..
Dr. Karen J. Dover, M.D., is a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada, National Board of Medical Examiners, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. She is a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Continuing Professional Development program participant, as well as a highly-regarded CPSO Peer Review program candidate. She is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Medical Associations, and a Fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.
